Since their founding in 1983, the Spondylitis Association of America (SAA) has been the face, voice and leading nationwide non-profit organization educating, empowering and advocating for people living with Spondylitis and its related diseases. Through their extensive work with patients, the medical community, and partners they provide information and resources to help people impacted by the disease live better lives and champion research to find a cure.
A long standing client of ours, who provides platforms to host online surveys, recommended TTC to the SAA as they had a need to have extensive translation work carried out.
The Challenge
The Spondylitis Association of America wanted to put together an online survey, to gain valuable knowledge on how COVID-19 affected people suffering from a disease called ankylosing spondylitis, which is now part of a wider term, ‘axial spondyloarthritis’. This is a kind of arthritis and is an auto-immune disease. They needed to know if these sufferers are more at risk and if their medications are of help or hindrance. The aim is to use this information to track and combat the impact and inevitably save lives.
As the pandemic has affected almost every single country, they wanted to invite as many countries as possible to take part. As the survey participants would come from all different social and educational backgrounds, it is imperative to be able to offer the survey in the native language of the target countries.
The Solution
Initially it was unclear which languages would be required, so in preparation TTC contacted all of their talented and highly trained medical translators, so that they would have a team on standby, whatever the language combination or volume, as once launched time would be of the essence!
As soon as the survey was launched in English, the SAA contacted TTC and requested for it to be translated initially into Mexican Spanish. TTC was able to turn it around in good time so the next stages could take place.
Since that time, TTC has subsequently completed translation of the same survey into 10 more languages. As well as completing video subtitling translation for the SAA’s online summit, which was held at the beginning of May. This allowed for spectators to be able to view the videos, which were in English, with the luxury of adding the subtitles in their own language.
