Machine Translation Case Study – Croatia Property Sales

Croatia is a popular destination not only because of its beautiful nature, but also it offers excellent investment opportunities in real estate. As in many fields, it is essential to reach your audience in their mother tongue, and you want to do it in a smart way if you have a huge website, tons of documents and several repetitive content. Check out our Machine Translation case study and learn more about the subject!

The challenge

Croatia Property Sales (CPS) first approached TTC wetranslate for their German translation requirement – a couple of pages for their website. Following the delivery of the first job, it turned out that CPS wanted to create a new website for their target German audience.

The first challenge was handling the complex XML file format which contained English, Croatian and some Russian texts with lots of HTML tags. TTC wetranslate’s IT team worked on the file and prepared it so that only the source language (English) can be processed for translation. The TTC team then managed to exclude the HTML tags as requested by the client’s webmaster.

The next challenge was the volume of the project, as there were more than 700,000.00 net words to be translated, and it was not possible to meet the defined budget and timeframe for the entire content.

The solution

Taking the budget, timeframe and the volume of the job into account, TTC wetranslate offered the client their generic Machine Translation solution. First, TTC wetranslate Project Managers created a bilingual file in English and German for trial purposes and shared it with the client’s German-speaking team members. After they evaluated the output, the client decided to proceed with this MT offer. Before starting the project, TTC wetranslate created a terminology list which consists of the most used terms within the text; thus, ensuring to improve MT output quality. The client initially wanted to use only the raw Machine Translation output – without any human translator touch. Taking the project one step forward, TTC wetranslate offered another cost-effective solution, which is to Post-Edit the repetitions within the text – without exceeding the agreed cost.

It took less than an hour to translate the whole content with the generic Machine Translation Engine. And then TTC wetranslate’s experienced translators post-edited the repetitions, and the in-house Quality Assurance team carried out the necessary checks before delivery.

The final version of the file was delivered to the client’s webmaster within the agreed standards.
