If you imagine what kind of work a translator does on a day-to-day basis you probably think of long documents, website copy and marketing material. It’s true that quite a lot of our work falls into those categories. But here are a few of our more unusual assignments.
Cryptocurrency: a client was looking to break into a new market in Turkey and the translation of their material needed a translator with finance, technical and IT knowledge – as well as being a native Turkish speaker. The first step was to create a landing page to test the water and our first translations exceeded all the client’s expectations.
eCommerce ‘cleaning’: The client had many Amazon listings that were to be translated from two languages into a third. They were concerned that some of the words might not translate well into another language and have negative connotations. Our team spent many hours working through all the listings to create professional ‘clean’ text and the client avoided the embarrassment factor.
YouTube video captions: The client had a video that needed translating into several languages. The video was captioned in each language and timecoded so the words matched the visuals exactly. We worked with the client’s social media platforms to provide the video in the language required just at the time they needed it.
Ingredient translations: How many ingredients does a meal have? Sometimes three sometimes thirteen or more. TTC is working with several food and drink companies – whose meals look delicious and translators are having hard time keeping themselves from snack eating while translating these!
Most of the meals have some same basic ingredients and there’s only one or two ingredients differences between some meals. Our software analyses these repetitions and replicates duplications to reduce the time spent on translations so the client spends less on translation.
Market research: Translating market research surveys isn’t so unusual, but the TTC team go a step further and our specialist translators test every link in each language. This ensures that every option in an online survey has been thoroughly tested to ensure that the data is accurately collected.
These are just a few of the assignments that are all in a day’s work for our translation team.
